Hallicrafters SX-73 Receiver

Front of SX-73
The Hallicrafters SX-73 (R-274) communications receiver was manufactured from 1952 to 1954 for the military-commercial market.   It sold new for $975.00.  This baby weighs 58 pounds and is 20X11X18.5 inches, and fits into a 19 inch rack.  It is a two-tone gray steel cabinet.  Unfortunately this receiver is not complete...it is missing the Hallicrafters name plate, dial lock and the S-meter is not original.
Back of SX-73
This receiver requires a speaker, and Hallicrafters recommended the Hallicrafters R-46 speaker to go with it.  It has audio output of 600/50 ohms and antenna input of 50-200 ohms.  It has a BFO injection control and carrier meter adjustment on rear.

The Hallicrafters SX-73 receiver has 6 fixed crystal positions with crystal vernier tuning.  Its ranges are: .54-1.35, 1.35-3.45, 3.45-7, 7-14.4, 14.4-29.7 abd 29.7-54 MHz.  It has receive/standby, BFO, AVC and ANL switches.

The Hallicrafters SX-73 receiver is a double conversion super heterodyne general coverage communications receiver.  It has 17 tubes plus voltage regulator, ballast tube and rectifier.  It has 2 IF and 2 RF stages and is single conversion below 7 MHz.  The coils are mounted on a turret and mechanically move into active circuit to reduce cross modulation.
